Women’s Empowerment and Community Hubs
Dedicated to the concept of women’s empowerment and the role of community hubs, Bloc Talk presents a three-way conversation between Blam, the political school Prime Minister and the social tailoring workshop Cucilento. The event brings together a collective of architects working in urban regeneration, a free, non-partisan training programme for young women and a tailoring workshop that creates job opportunities for people in difficulty, especially women. Women’s empowerment: what do we mean by it? It is a concept that highlights the need to achieve gender balance and can be seen as useful to that end. Some interpretations, however, consider it too individualistic, tainted by marketing and prone to drifting away from the collective dimension. We will discuss these aspects from different perspectives, and how self-awareness finds its place in spaces of sharing, training, and social and professional growth. The potential of community hubs as places of action, research, creativity and plurality will also be explored: spaces that encourage encounter, active participation and the well-being of local communities.
Speakers:
Angela Laurenza – Co-founder and President, Prime Minister
Sarah Khoudja – Founder and creator, Cucilento
Moderator:
Ludovica La Rocca – Co-founder of Blam and PhD candidate, University of Naples Federico II
The Time of Water
Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation: Infrastructure and Strategies for Tomorrow
Water is one of the first signs of the ongoing climate crisis. Extreme events such as floods, prolonged droughts and torrential rain are disrupting the natural cycle, making a deep rethink of water resource management ever more urgent. These phenomena are compounded by global processes such as ocean acidification and sea level rise, which make water a strategic, intergenerational issue. The talk addresses the main challenges of sustainable water management, exploring concrete adaptation and mitigation strategies and actions at the local level. We will discuss them with Consac Gestioni Idriche, Legambiente Campania and Nisida.
Speakers:
Gennaro Maione – President, Consac Gestioni Idriche
Raffaele Vaccaro – Founder & Managing Director, Nisida Environment
Moderator:
Michele Buonomo – Legambiente Campania
Sonic Geographies
Musical journeys through cassettes, vinyl and local markets. Intimate mappings of independent artistic research.
A moment of musical immersion to explore the stimuli that guide artistic choices. Moderated by Massimiliano Mautone, artistic director of Bloc Fest, and featuring contributions from Retro Cassette and 180 gr, the conversation will cover selection, collecting and influences, as well as places, discovery and artistic research far from the mainstream.
Retro Cassette is the project of Badreddine Haoutar and Giulia Giu, known in the world of urban arts and for their visceral passion for Moroccan, Algerian and Libyan tapes, which hold gems of North African music, from chaâbi to raï, by way of rap, rock and gnawa.
180 gr is the musical project of N-Zino (Enzo Iannece), which celebrates vinyl culture and music mixed and played on analogue instruments. The music of 180 gr breaks away from traditional venues to enliven places of authenticity and spontaneity, specifically local fruit and vegetable markets. With 180 gr, we witness a fusion of neighbourhood commerce, a passion for musical research and the promotion of artistic talent.
